A day on the Navua, Luva and Kayaking in Pacific Harbor
This trip includes a two day trip along the Navua River, a two day trip down the Luva River, and a two day coastal kayaking trip. The Navua River trip will take you through some of the country’s most formidable and phenomenally beautiful terrain in the relative comfort of inflatable rafts. This is a special trip not because of one unparalleled attribute upon which the success of the trip is based, but many special and scenically significant places; each individually worthy of special recognition. There is not one waterfall but many, (some say at least seventy); not one short stretch of deep, narrow canyon, but kilometers. This is a place where black volcanic walls are at points barely seven meters apart and over forty meters high and fringed by emerald rainforest. This is a place where man has been merely an intermittent visitor at best, where some of the wildest and most beautiful Fiji can still be found.
The Luva trip begins with a breath taking overland journey into the Namosi Highlands through the lush rainforest interior of Viti Levu. Atop jungle passes, we enjoy breath-taking views of Beqa Lagoon and other coastal areas until our descent into a beautiful and peaceful Namosi Valley. Our journey through this idyllic countryside eventually leads us to the Wainikoroiluva River where we take charge of our own inflatable kayaks.
The sea kayaking trip begins at the mouth of the Navua river. Along the way, we explore the mangrove forests that thrive in these coastal waters. As we paddle through these unusual forests, we keep a sharp lookout for the denizens that call this unique ecosystem home. Mud lobsters, herons, harrier hawks, king fishers and fruit bats inhabit this area, which many refer to as the “Ocean’s Nursery.” Following lunch, we set our course for the open ocean where we search for coral gardens and the kaleidaoscope of tropical fish that make this saltwater oasis their home. Our final leg will take us along the sandy beaches of the Pacific Harbor where we can relax beneath the shade of a palm tree and recount the menories of our coastal sojourn.

About Rivers Fiji
While we might be new to Fiji, Rivers Fiji is not new to whitewater rafting. The formation of the company has its roots firmly established in both the outfitting and whitewater water equipment manufacturing industries. This unique blend of commercial river outfitting and inflatable boat / equipment manufacturing spans a period greater than 30 years and brings to Fiji a multidimensional partnership whose focus is on the development the entire whitewater industry not just river trips.
Wherever possible Rivers Fiji works with locally owned/operated businesses to run our programs (e.g., truck and boat shuttles, food purchases). We work hard to ensure that our business does not detract from services already in existence by duplicating services. Rather we encourage the development of support businesses by contracting these services wherever possible.
In addition to the obvious benefits associated with employment opportunities with Rivers Fiji, we also pay a user fee to the native land owners to provide benefits directly to village life and in an effort to encourage their support of sustainable tourism products by protecting their pristine landscapes and waterways.
Rivers Fiji has worked closely with the University of the South Pacific to conduct an impact analysis of our tourism program on the local communities. We used this information in the development of policies and best practices in the areas we operate trips. We also hope that this information is used as a model for future developments inspired by local villagers in the region.
