The hotel follows strict standards for best practices for waste storage and removal, power, chemical and water usage and while minimizing the use of large air conditioning systems. The hotel climate control system uses computer controlled louvres and circulation fans in the “atrium space” to regulate the direction of hot and cold air to control the ambient temperature of corridors and the “atrium space” as opposed to using traditional air conditioning units. For this system, the hotel was recently awarded the Royal Austrailian Institute of Architects Award fro Environmental Design in 2005.
